Do you expect more from your life?

Does the feeling of discontentment is keeping you away from being happy?

If that’s you right and you feel like you are being kept away from the life that you truly desire, you need to know that it isn’t the situation that is holding you back, it is you.

You are the only person that is holding yourself back from achieving your dreams and if you notice the signs of self-sabotaging behavior, it’s time to take action and get to the next level of greatness.

Otherwise, you may become a version of yourself that you never wanted to be.

Getting to the next level of greatness requires you to find out who you are at your very core.

Look at yourself and where you’re at with your life right now.

Is it where you want to be?

Are you the person you always dreamed to be?

Think about yourself when you were a young and naïve child. Who were you before you believed everyone that has been telling you who you should be?

Who are you now alone with your thoughts, when no one can see or hear you?

It is so easy to blame outside influences or other people for life failures.

Because, the truth is when you acknowledge that it’s down to you, it may be hard to take.

And if you think that your life is not your call, then you’re giving away control over it.

Most of our beliefs and core values were taught us in our first few years and they are often the foundation of our life.

In fact, they do not need to be in stone. We can choose to change them if we want to.

What you focus your thoughts on, you create.

So, look at your life and identify the areas that are not satisfying enough for you.

Now think how you caused it to be this way.

Yes, you.

Because your entire world is created by the roads you choose to travel.

The decisions you make have caused you to arrive where you are now.

Naturally, there were other influences that came into play, but it was you who made a decision that took you to the place you are at now.

Once you accept that your life is created by you, decide what you want your destiny to be.

Be very clear about it. Don’t be afraid to set big goals.

You can break them down into smaller action steps that will help you with reaching them.

Being at the next level of life, in reality, means constant challenge, commitment, and willingness to go through the moments of doubts and get up after being knocked down.

When it comes to success in your life, continuous improvement is part of the job. It’s the actions that you take every single day that will decide on the outcomes.

It’s the consistency that will play a major part in achieving the life of your dreams.

Remember that whatever it is that you desire, it must come within and be fired with your passion.

Knowing who you are and deciding who you want to become is going to affect your destiny and add up to your fulfillment and life satisfaction.

And what’s great about it, you can make it happen at any time of your life.

So, are you ready to push yourself to the next level?

1. Make the Decision to Change

The truth is, you could read about personal development 2 hours every day and still don’t change a thing in your life. Which is okay – if you are merely interests in personal development, but not actually committed to it.

All these articles out there, they are here to inspire you. To motivate you t o start your own journey. To give you the tools and information you need to make it happen. And because of this, they can be really powerful.

Think about what you can gain by making a change and how your life will be different after taking a leap. How could this decision contribute to positive life changes?

Making a decision to change is the only way to move forward, so go with your gut and commit to a real decision that will lead you to personal growth and new beginnings.

Remember that each change is a turning page that triggers progress and brings new choices for happiness and fulfillment.

2. Take Control of Your Thoughts and Words

Getting hold over your mind and emotions is a valuable weapon. It takes time, persistence, and effort to get to this point.

If you will begin to turn your pessimistic views into constructive ones, you can undergo a lot of development and change. You’ll still have negative thoughts, everyone experiences that. But the habit of turning certain thoughts has a much greater influence on your subconscious than you realize.

3. Create a Morning Routine

Creating a morning routine allows you to prepare yourself for the rest of the day and get you on track from the moment you wake up. It helps you control your schedules rather than your schedule controlling you.

As you spend your time on something valuable, it increases your productivity, lowers your stress, and helps you feel more in control over your commitments.

This is a great way to start to get on track with your goals.

The thing about this that people sometimes forget is that they should actually schedule the activities starting at the end of the day and moving backward.

A lot of people want to plan it the other way around, and that is part of the reason why most of us do not have a stable morning routine that works.

A person needs to figure out the end of their day first because this better guides them towards the things that they actually want to get done, and it gives them the structure and schedule for how to do it.

4. Get Inspiration From Those Around You

If you aren’t sure how, find someone that inspires you to do better and ask them what they are doing.

You would be surprised how unique everyone’s personal development really is when you start to discuss the details.

Ask others and try what they are doing and see if it sparks any ideas.

Jennifer Maynard

Finding inspiration will bring you more sense of freedom and authenticity into your life.

It will awaken you to new possibilities by allowing you to transcend your ordinary experiences and limitations that are holding you back.

Along with inspiration, you’ll naturally get more willingness to learn, grow, and pursue your dreams with confidence.

5. Seek a Mentor You Can Count On

They would not only be able to guide you on the ins and outs of reaching those goals, but they may also expose you to other brilliant minds that could collectively inspire you to be that much better.

Being supported by a mentor will also help you gain practical advice, increase your social and academic confidence, as well as develop your communication and personal skills.

6. Develop a Growth Mindset

If we have a “fixed mindset,” we may shy away from challenges that could help us grow. But this can be problematic because our fear of making mistakes can lead us to avoid challenges and new experiences—experiences which would help us grow, improve ourselves in important ways, and create the life we desire.

Having a growth mindset, however, helps overcome obstacles that you may stumble upon while learning something new or facing a challenging moment.

People with growth mindset ultimately believe that any talent or skill can be developed through hard work, right strategies, determination, and persistent action.

7. Remember Why You Started

For stubborn moments of self-sabotage, think about why you started trying to break or form a habit.

If you wanted to get up earlier because you have been late to work, remind yourself of that when you go to hit the snooze button in the morning.

If you started dieting because you want to feel comfortable in shorts during the summer, remind yourself of that when you go to eat another slice of pizza. It takes practice to get into the habit of thinking about your “why.” If reminding yourself why you started still isn’t enough to break those bad habits, you might need a better “why.”

8. Value Growth Over Comfort

You have to realize that in order to build a successful mindset, growth has to be a priority and you can’t afford to stay in a state of comfort. Learn to be comfortable being uncomfortable. It is the same way in any aspect of life.

Growth doesn’t happen overnight, but placing that above complacency will eventually lead you to be dominant and successful.

Stepping out of your comfort zones to reach for growth is necessary to take your life to the next level.

Whether it’s a personal or business success, it always comes with advancement and growth, which is why choosing growth over comfort you are getting yourself a chance to excel.

As you continue to grow, instead of settling for comfort, you get to nurture and improve the skills and talents that you have.

9. Eliminate Victim Talk and Own Your Choices

Get rid of the ‘I should’, ‘I can’t’, ‘I have to’ statements from your vocabulary. By saying that you can’t or that you have to do a particular thing, you are claiming that you have no control of your situation. This is not true.

Consider these scenarios: “I have to go to work”. No, you choose to go to work. It’s not that enjoyable, but you’d rather be employed than living on the street begging for food. “I can’t lose weight because I have injuries”. No, you can’t do specific activities because of your injuries perhaps, but there are so many other activities and strategies that you could do.

When you eliminate the use of victim phrases you acknowledge that everything is a choice. You take ownership of your choice and take responsibility and accountability for the outcome of your choice.

10. Practice Excellence

Excellence does not mean perfection. It simply means to perform your best ability in every task, even the ones that seem unimportant to you. With time, you will realize that putting your best efforts even in the tiniest task will become your habit. Eventually, it will help to put your best towards your most important endeavors.

To be mediocre, you just have to work. Being excellent, however, takes a lot more effort and energy. You need to have a great passion for what you’re doing and try much harder to achieve the level of excellence. You also have to do the work with the desired outcome being excellence.

Final Thoughts

Working on improving your life not only will enable you to build your self-esteem but will also take you out of the vicious cycle of thinking less of yourself and despairing over what others have achieved. It will make you love yourself for who you are and puch you to unleash your full potential.

Yes, I loved your idea to seek a mentor and to own your choices. I think this is a very important post because everyone is always looking to be and do better!

  1. Thanks for such a motivational read. I agree that the only way to change our lives is to make the decision and commit to it. I especially liked the part about taking ownership of our excuses and your examples on how to reframe those negative thoughts. We are more powerful and capable than we let ourselves believe.

  2. Great tips! I have so many things that I want to do or try but sometimes I’m stuck in my thoughts or I listen too much what other people say. I’ll definitely try out your advices 🙂

  3. Love this post! It definitely inspired me to keep going to take my life to the next level! I especially liked eliminating the victim talk. A lot of us do this, but if we try to be rational and focus on being grateful, we can shift our mindset.

  4. Very insightful article, thank you! I feel being mindful and taking ahold of your thoughts and emotions are crucial. It’s not always easy but definitely something to work on. A good morning routine also helps a lot. 🙂

  5. These are great tips. It’s easy to make the decision that you want to grow as a person, but more often than not it is just a thought. If you don’t have a plan to back it up it won’t happen. Every day you need to make the conscious decision to choose better for yourself. If that means having an internal conversation with yourself, then so be it.

  6. I appreciate your insights and tips and it’s a great way to start the year of 2021. For me, I do think it’s important to have a morning routine, thanks a lot for the reminder and tips. – Knycx Journeying

  7. I don’t know if I agree that we are the creators of our lives but I do believe we have control over the way we react to our situations and the decisions we make from there. I like your emphasis on being intentional with one’s thoughts and words. We can easily speak things into existence and sometimes do so out of resentment. Both ways, one can only take their life to the next level if they value growth over comfort as you stated.

  8. Great tips, thanks for sharing! I agree that it is important to know yourself and to develop a growth mindset. It can take awhile to get to that point, but it is definitely worth it

  9. I totally agree with your #2! It’s so important yet probably one of the hardest to accomplish. We are our own biggest cheerleader and our own worst critic, we need to help the cheerleader to rise up!
